When I was younger a huge favorite of mine was the Goosebumps series by R. L. Stine. They are horror like mysteries with endless amounts of volumes. This series is still popular today. I have noticed kids in the schools that I go to are still reading them. They always kept me entertained and coming back for more books.

Shared Reading

This article was really remarkable and interesting. The evidence is so clear as to what it takes to make kids into life long readers. The different ways she developed as a reader and progress that Sarah made with the Caterpillar and other books was so amazing. She was like an animator and the audience. It was truly eye opening for me as a new mother to see how imperative it is to not only expose my daughter to literature, but to really actively engage in it with her. She can see ,like Sarah, how literature is interesting and pleasurable. You are exposed to so many ideas and concepts when we read. When our youth and students don't get this exposure they are missing our on such a remarkable thing. There is a certain advantage that only literature can bring to us. After reading this article, I know that I will be more consistent as far reading with my daughter.

Chapter 9 Nonfiction

This chapter was full of surprising facts. When I thought of nonfiction I just thought of research typed materials. In actuality there are many types of nonfiction. Not only that, there are many aspects and elements to nonfiction that one may not initially consider. There are formats, styles, language usage, and even organization. One fact that was interesting to me was the use of analogies and metaphors in nonfiction to paint a mental image and resonate it in the mind. Nonfiction is categorized by form. They range from concept books to journals and reference books. Nonfiction is truly everywhere and we don't usually recognize it. Newspapers, cookbooks, etc, are all nonfiction writings we see often. The different ways to apply and organize nonfiction was also interesting to me.

Another interesting author that I have become familiar with over the years is Shel Silverstein. His work is truly one of a kind. His poetry is very unique and definitely unforgettable. My group and I have actually decided to incorporate him into our genre projects. His works have been and will continue to be admired for years to come.

Chapter 8- Samantha Lopez

Its been a while since I have leisurely read. I so wish I had more time for it though. There is nothing like getting lost in a good book. The most recent books I read were the Nora Roberts collection. She has an entire series on a fictional family called the Mcgregors. It consist of the entire family tree, from the grandparents lives down to the grandchildrens lives. It has a lot of romance so it may not appeal to all taste, but I like them. They portray the fantasy romance and ideal life, its a nice fantasy. The most recent I read was about the three granddaughters. One is a doctor, lawyer, and a real estate broker. The book follows their paths to finding true love and happiness. Yes its Corny, but entertaining!
